Designing and Constructing a Natural Multi-Yard Wonderland
In response to our valued repeat client's desire for an immersive natural environment, we embarked on a journey to design and construct a multi-yard playground that fosters creativity, exploration, and sensory development for children at their brand new early learning centre. The playground is divided into distinct spaces catering to different age groups, ensuring a tailored and enriching experience for all.
The Babies Yard features a sensory path leading to a pitched roof cubby house, accompanied by a sandpit surrounded by rock and log edging. A unique rebar tunnel provides an alternative entry point to the sandpit, enhancing the adventure.
The Toddlers Yard boasts a softfall mulch area, a mound with a slide, a small cubby house with amphitheatre deck steps, and a Bush Pole Teepee nestled into a sandpit. The inclusion of a Skillion Roof Shelter with full-height back and side walls doubles as a bike lockup, while water and electricity "pumps" add dynamic play elements. Fruit trees planted in produce boxes surround a square paved area with L-shaped seats and a mesh screen, creating an interactive space for climbing vines.
The Kinder Yards offer an elaborate sensory path and Yarning Circle, a custom-designed play fort with climbing nets and a bush pole ladder, and a pitched roof arbour covering a sandpit equipped with a bucket pulley. Multiple produce boxes, a skillion roof with UV laserlite shelter, a digging patch with rock and log edging, a mud kitchen, and a push-button tap with a log rill and dry creek bed further enhance the Kinder Yards. An additional sandpit with multiple entries and two adjacent shopfronts, all covered by a shade cloth structure, provide endless opportunities for sand play activities. The entire design is completed with a deck featuring an arbour for vines to grow over, creating a magical and interconnected play space that promotes learning and fun in a natural setting.
