We just finished this rooftop childcare centre in the centre of the latest suburban expansion of Tarneit.
The roof level combines lots of different loose textures such as mulch, sand, pebbles and we even snuck in a digging patch! A beautifully rendered and curved block edge to the sandpit allows for balance play and seating, and a simple cubby house provides a link to the produce area. A bush pole tepee that can be moved around the yard creates many opportunities for open ended play and exploring, a top priority for the client.
Downstairs, the yards wrap around the building and the use of textured surfaces and built elements create spaces for all types of play. Large bamboo plants create their own avenues through which kids can run and explore, and elements such as water play expose children to sensory learning. An epic produce area with a walk in animal enclosure helps teach children about sustainability, and a mound with a slide and rock climbing area creates a challenge so kids can learn to take risks in play.
We are super excited to see how the children at this new centre make this space their own!
