Transforming Outdoor Play Spaces: A Comprehensive Redesign for Early Learning Centre

We recently completed a comprehensive redesign and renovation of the outdoor play spaces at an early learning center for a repeat client whose philosophy emphasises fostering children’s natural propensity to learn through play and discovery.
The project involved transforming two distinct yards with age-appropriate elements. In the North yard, catering to Kinder and Pre-Kinder children, we developed a cottage garden area with sleeper seating nooks for quiet play. We introduced a produce area with potting table and fruit trees. We enhanced the existing fort with new features, including a connecting platform, log steps, a climbing wall, and a double slide. Additionally, we introduced a bush play area featuring log stilts, steppers, a rope traverse, and a climbing net. A rock mound with a tunnel, totem posts, a sandpit with sandstone block edges, and a sand play kitchen were added, complemented by a rubber bike track and crazy pave steppers with a water mist arch for refreshing water play on hot Queensland days.
The South yard, designed for Nursery and Toddler areas, now boasts a raised garden bed, natural rock climbing boulders, a timber amphitheater, crazy pave steppers, and a rubber bike track. We retained elements like synthetic turf and play forts while revamping others, such as the sandpit. New additions include Perspex windows in the fence, a sensory path with a water mist feature, a bridge, a tunnel, and a timber bench, creating an engaging and stimulating environment for the youngest learners.
