Creating an Inclusive Nature Play Space for community Kindergarten

With the generous support of a Building Blocks inclusion grant, this Kindergarten has embarked on an exciting project to design and construct an inclusive nature play space that welcomes all children from the broader Darebin community.

This vibrant transformation includes relocating the existing cubby, extending the sandpit, refurbishing the digging patch with new rock edging, and expanding the decking area. We’ve also created a new creek bed with log rills and boulder edging, installed a double swing frame with a softfall rubber landing pad, and constructed a custom-designed timber fort featuring two platforms, a clatter bridge, slide, bucket pulley, rope net, rock wall, horizontal bars, shop front, and up/down talk tubes. The monkey bars have been relocated and enhanced with new platforms and posts.

The play yard now boasts a winding concrete bike pathway, re-used brick paving, a rubber path shaped like an eel, upright logs, fruit trees, and native shrubs nestled between bush sticks. This nature discovery play space provides countless inclusive opportunities for children to immerse themselves in nature, meeting their developmental needs and fostering a sense of wonder and exploration.
