Creating an Enriching Environment for Early Learning: A Renovation Project
Our valued client, a prominent provider of quality early learning and care dedicated to offering children the best possible start in life, engaged us once again for a play space renovation. With this project, we faced the challenge of transforming a relatively small yard characterised by a considerable land slope. Undeterred by the constraints, our team conceptualised and implemented a series of thoughtful improvements to enhance the space.
The redesigned outdoor area now boasts a large platform deck encircling an existing tree, complete with steps at the front to gracefully navigate the slope. Other notable features include a spacious soft fall area for moveable equipment, sandpits adorned with natural rock and log edging, and a creatively designed bush log teepee connected by crazy pave steppers through a garden bed to the entrance. A platform deck with a stainless steel pump for a winding dry creek with natural edging reflecting local streams was a key feature that our design incorporated to deliver a variety of elements aimed at fostering exploration and learning. Logs and branches were strategically arranged as natural climbing features, and a produce area was organised as an indigenous symbol for bush tucker, featuring leaf-shaped raised planter boxes. A platform stage with retaining walls, a large paved area for outdoor activities, a digging patch with a circle of upright logs, and a winding rubber path with circular concrete pavers representing the indigenous symbol for journey further contribute to creating a stimulating and enriching environment for early learners.
